Second Shift

We are a Second Shift Family.
We do everything a couple hours later than "normal."
We stay up late. We sleep late (well...SJ and I sleep late. Richard gets a lot of work done before we get up in the mornings!). We eat late. We nap late.
I've been ashamed of our schedule for the last two years, but recently a good friend told me that until their oldest child started school, they did everything later than "normal," too. So I've been thinking about it, and I don't think I should be embarrassed anymore.
So we're on second shift. So sue me. We're happy.

I'm right there with ya, Sis! Sometimes I feel like I was just waiting for Ryan to get home from work to get moving on my projects, but I'm starting to think that's just my prime time! If the world was run by early risers nothing would be open past 5pm. It's people like us that keep the world turning!

Ha! I'm pretty sure the "normal" crowd would disagree with you on the "world turning" thing. Something about the sun...

Also, I work BEST late at night. Always have. I do my best work after 10pm. :)
OK, 11pm if we're being honest.

Erin, TISF!!
I never would have guessed. I always think I am the only one. (Though, being considerably older than you, late gets harder to do if you can't sleep in.)

Gosh, treasure this time when you don't have to be anywhere early. I always wanted to sleep in, and my oldest was a 5:00-er until about 3 years old. Then he learned how to sleep till 6:00. I always had toys in arms reach of the bed and he played there while I slept another hour. Or 2 if he'd let me.

Now he's a teenager and I'm thinking of payback. Although... sleeping in for him is like 7:30! And I'm not getting up before then just to get him back.

It's a joke among the new son-in-laws about how late dinner is around here. They both know a snack around 7 pm should hold 'em til dinner time!

No one has ever given me a hard time for being a night owl. Well, except my teachers all through public schooling. My mom would let me stay up with her and she would make me hot lipton tea with milk and honey. We would stay up really late as far back as I can remember and it has stuck. I figure it takes my brain about 12 hours to spool up so by the time its dark out, I'm ready to get to work. I'm just surprised the neighbors have not called the police on me for working on my car until 4AM several times a week!
